What is Sports Art?

Sports art is an often under-appreciated genre of art that has as its central theme an athlete(s) or sporting activity.

Sports art can be done in watercolor, oil, enamel, pencil and graphite, pen and ink, pastels, charcoal, and any of the other traditional drawing media. The art establishment tends to take a somewhat dim view of sports art as being a lesser form of art (the Art genre listing in Wikipedia lists 60 genres of art including Death-related Art, Clown Art and Burning Art, but does not list Sports Art), yet in Western society there is a much wider audience for sports art than almost any other category of art. This large audience bodes well for the future of sports art, and over time sports art will almost certainly become one of the leading genres of art in the art market.
