What are Sports Collectibles?

Sports collectibles, also known as sports memorabilia, is a broad category of sports and sports-related products that have some meaning to a collector.

A sports collectible generally has sentimental, nostalgic and/or monetary value to an owner or potential owner. Some people hear the term “sports collectible” and automatically assume that the item is autographed in some way, shape or form, but this is a misconception. A sports collectible is simply any sports-related item with meaning to a collector and does not need to be autographed to be considered a sports collectible. One other common misconception is that a sports collectible is rare or one-of-a-kind, but the reality is that any sports-related item with meaning to a collector constitutes a sports collectible. The relative scarcity of an item is not necessarily a factor in its value to a collector – a mass produced sports jersey or sport-themed poster qualify as a sports collectible as surely as a game-worn piece of equipment autographed by the famous sports figure who wore or used it.
