This original piece of art was painted by artist Tino Paolini for Maple Leaf Productions Ltd.

Some History

1999-2000For their 5th season in Denver the Avalanche moved into a brand new home the Pepsi Center, leaving behind the crumbling McNichols Arena. In their new rink, the Avalanche continued to roll over their division opponents winning their 6th straight division title (if you count their final year in Quebec) with a 42-29-11-1 record.  Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg were still forces to be reckoned with as both players continued to average better than a point per game despite missing significant time during the season due to injury. In their absence two new young stars emerged - Chris Drury, who was NHL Rookie of the Year in 1999 and Milan Hejduk.  A late-season trade that brought Ray Bourque, one of the top defenceman in NHL history, to Denver from Boston, fortified the defence.

In the playoffs the Avalanche rolled their way to the Western Conference Finals again beating the Phoenix Coyotes and Detroit Red Wings each in 5 games. However, the Avalanche were eliminated from the playoffs by the Dallas Stars in a hard fought 7-game war in which 5 games were decided by 1 goal.

The Avalanche once again employed a two-tone color scheme for their white home jersey. As was the case with the road jersey the shoulders and waistline are one solid color, this time burgundy red. The torso of the jersey is white with the Avalanche logo on the chest.  This jersey also features a 2000 patch on the front of the right shoulder. All NHL teams wore this patch to celebrate the inaugural year of the new century.
